________________________________________________
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) signed into law by
President Obama in mid-February included a temporary subsidy to help workers who have involuntarily lost their jobs maintain their healthcare insurance through COBRA. Last month the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) provided guidance for employers.

Hey Everyone,

In case you can't make it to the Silver Stallion, between 9am and 1pm, on Saturday, don't fret! Seth and Adam will be at the Einstein Brothers in downtown Park Ridge (23 S Prospect Ave) from 4-4:30 on Friday to distribute signs and literature. Feel free to grab a stack and give some to your friends and neighbors.

School Board Canvassing

Take Action!: MTA Canvassing Day
Saturday, April 4, 2009

The school board elections are Tuesday, April 7th. Four seats are open, and six candidates are running. As we learned in last year’s negotiations (among many other issues), the make-up of the school board is very important to every member of the MTA and the District 207 community.

The MTA has endorsed three excellent candidates: incumbent Ed Mueller and challengers Eldon Burk and Margaret McGrath. The endorsement process included a candidate questionnaire as well as candidate interviews.

It is very important to understand that we can make a difference in this election! If we can get 50 MTA members out canvassing for 2-2 ½ hours this Saturday, we can help mold the future of our Board and our schools.

PLEASE take a few hours out of your Saturday and come advocate for yourself!

We will be meeting this Saturday (4/4) at the Silver Stallion, 1275 Lee St in Des Plaines.

We will have two canvassing sessions, one from 9 A.M.- noon, and one from noon- 3 P.M. We will have a quick training meeting at the Silver Stallion and then send out volunteers for 2 ½ hours. We will then repeat that process at noon. Even if you can't make those times, stop by any time from 9am to 1pm for a map and literature.

We will provide coffee & donuts in the morning, and snacks at noon!

Even if you can't make it this Saturday, let us know if you want a stack of brochures to hand out or yard signs.
